THE TRAP shooting section of the Prince George Rod & Gun Club is affiliated with the Pacific International Trapshooting Association (PITA).  The trap shooting facilities are located at the PGRGC Hartman Road range, west of the city of Prince George, BC.

Our Pacific Automatic Trap machines are voice command operated.  These PAT machines can be configured to throw standard clay targets as singles (fixed angle or standard oscillation) and doubles.  Wobble delivery can add an extra challenge for the shooter.  12 gauge shotguns of any action type are used.  “Trap load” shot shells (1145fps/max 1 1/8oz #71/2, 8 or 9 lead shot) are expected.  Faster loads of 1350fps are allowed for (PITA) handicap distances.  Some shooters test their skill with smaller (16, 20, 28 ga. or .410 bore) shotguns.

rule 1 Hearing protection is mandatory.

rule 1 Heavy field load or magnum shot shells are not permitted.  This is not an opportunity to shoot off old boxes of #4 lead shot duck loads.  The largest safe shot size is #6, which is too large for competitive purposes.

rule 1 Body size matters!  This is not an activity for young children, even with very close supervision.

rule 1 PGRGC shooters pay a reduced, flat fee (2008 = $4.00) to cover the cost of each round of 25 clays shot at.  We honour reciprocal club memberships.

rule 1 Weather permitting, practice sessions on Sundays begin at 12-1 PM.  Wednesday evening practice sessions, starting at 6-7 PM, are discontinued over the winter.

rule 1 The PGRGC Trap Section hosts a PITA Registered competition in mid-June of each year.  The 2008 total was 19,600 registered targets.

rule 1 New shooters, novices, guests and out-of-town club shooters are always welcome.
